A total of 703 asylum seekers are to be relocated from the island of Lesvos to several accommodation facilities in the Greek mainland. It is the second wave of decongration of Lesvos, where the number of refugees and migrants has reached 13,000. In recent meetings, the Greek government has decided to relocate vulnerable groups and unaccompanied minors to the mainland.
108 people left for the port of Piraeus on Wednesday, 348 will leave tomorrow, Friday, while another 247 will be brought to Piraeus next Monday.
From Piraeus the people are to be distributed to accommodation facilities in Eleonas and Schisto in Attica, in Thebes and Thermopylae, Viotia, and Katsika camp in Ioannina, Epirus.
Meanwhile the population of the camp in Moria remains very high. With the increased flow in recent days the number of people reached 13,000, notes local media lesvosnews.net.
The news website point out that 333 people in total reached Lesvos by 12 o’ clock noon Thursday. 251 arrived on Wednesday and 82 today.
The number of arrivals to the other northern Aegean islands has also increased. 138 people reached Chios in the last 24 hours and 312 Samos.
The flows have not be halted, despite the “unofficial agreement” between Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in New York on Wednesday.

Ever since Erdogan threatened to “open the gates and millions of migrants and refugees to Europe” the number of arrivals to Greece is constantly increasing.
Meanwhile, the life vests are piling up on Lesvos.
