Two assassins on a motorcycle fired with a Kalashnikov automatic weapon and a pistol at a businessman in Chaidari suburb of West Athens on Tuesday. The assassination took place at 11 o’ clock in the morning and thus while the businessman had stopped the car he was driving at traffic lights on Athinon Avenue.
The victim, aged between 40 and 50 years old, was seriously injured and transferred to hospital.
The assassins fired several shots from a Kalashnikov and a 9mm pistol and the whole incident took place in front of local residents, shopowners and other motorists driving by.
“I heard over 10 shots,” a local eyewitness told media.
The victim was driving a gray BMW that did not belong to him.
The perpetrators who were wearing helmets fled right after the attack.
According to initial police estimations, the attack has to do with settling of accounts between gang members.
The victim was charged in the past for illegal gambling.
He was owner of a coffee trade company. Three years ago, explosive devices had demolished his shop on Athinon Avenue.

Interesting development.
According to latest media information, the businessman had two guards who apparently fired at the assassins, therefore the 9mm cartridges found in the crime scene.
Police investigates the ‘personal guards’ identity and whether they were police officers off duty.
In early evening, media reported that the victim had died in the hospital.
