Greece’s National Meteorological Service has issued a press release warning of extreme weather phenomena and powerful winds up to 10 Beaufort to strike Greece on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 12-13, 2019.
At the same time, local meteorologists warn of a Medicane that is being formed in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The extreme weather is forecast to strike especially the Western Greece on Wednesday morning.
Next to a high volume of rain and stormy winds, barometric low “Victoria” is also forecast to bring also Sahara dust in the country.

The weather deterioration is forecast to strike as of Tuesday noon with heavy rainfalls, thunderstorms, hail-storms and stormy South winds, especially in the Ionian Sea.

Tuesday, Nov 12
Regions affected: the islands in the Ionian Sea, Epirus and Central Greece aso of the afternoon. West and South Peloponnese as of the evening and West Macedonia in the night to Wednesday.
Wednesday, Nov 13
Regions affected: Islands in the Ionian Sea, Epirus, western Sterea and western
Peloponnese. The phenomena are forecast to weaken as of the afternoon.
Central Macedonia until Wed noon.
East Peloponnese, East Sterea, including Attica, possibly also Thessaly and the Sporades islands.
Crete: from early morning until late at night
Gradually also the Cyclades islands, East Macedonia, the rest of Crete.
Thrace, islands in the East Aegean Sea and the Dodecanese late on Wed night.

Stormy Winds
South winds blowing with intensity 8-9 Beaufort are forecast especially for Western Greece from early Tuesday until the early morning hours of Wednesday.
In the morning hours of Tuesday, stormy winds up to 10 Beaufort are forecast locally in the Ionian Sea.
Please, note that sea traffic is normally halted when winds are blowing with 8-9 B. Therefore, check with local port authorities and travel agents if you plan a sea trip.
Thursday, Nov 14
No much of a weather improvement is forecast at least in the early morning hours of Thursday.
Chief Meteorologist at the Hellenic National Meteorology Service is warning of a Medicane, a warm-core cyclone as of Monday.
The Cyclone will initially move into Algeria and Tunisia overnight to Tuesday and recurves back north into the Mediterranean on Tuesday afternoon.
The cyclone will maintain a very deep cold upper core drifting east across the Mediterranean. At the surface, cyclone re-intensifies and soon forms a potentially strong warm-core / medicane system again,” Kolydas warns.
