A 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death in Kallithea suburb of southern Athens late on Wednesday. The stabbing took place during a brawl among mostly minors.
The victim was part of a group that became involved in a brawl with another group of several males in their late teens or early 20s on a public square and in surrounding streets in central Kallithea shortly after 11 p.m., the police spokeswoman told media.
The two groups scattered when the victim fell to the ground, bleeding from a stab wound in the chest area. An ambulance rushed the teenager to a hospital, but despite doctor’s efforts the boy died.
Police rushed to the area and took 14 of suspects for questioning.
Soon, a 17-year-old boy confessed to the stabbing during the brawl and he was arrested. He told police he had thrown away the knife he used in a garbage bin. However, police found it in the area a little later and sent it for forensic analysis.
Despite his young age, the victim had been alreayd twice arrested by police: a month earlier because a knife had been found on him and a year ago for possession of an iron fist.
The Forensic Department identified the victim due to his fingerprints.
Along with a group of five other people, the victim was in a park in Kallithea. The perpetrator was also there with two of his friends.
The two groups started fighting, resulting in the perpetrator calling for reinforcements. Then five other people arrived at the scene and together they chased the 15-year-old and his friends. About 100 meters further down, the minor fell dead from a stab wound.
One scenario suspects links to groups of hooligans or even young criminals.
According to Skai TV, it is the third minor stabbed to death in recent months.
