EKO Acropolis Rally 2026 kicks off on Thursday

Greece will become the focal point of interest for fans of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) from 25-28 June 2026, when the legendary Acropolis Rally, the eighth race of 14 in the season, is taking place.

The event is the eighth round of this year’s 14-round WRC season.

It is worth noting that the Greek WRC event, which returned to the championship calendar in 2021, has once again established itself as a cornerstone of the World Rally Championship, and its place on the calendar has already been secured for 2027. Furthermore, at the request of the Greek organizers, the Acropolis Rally returned last year to its traditional slot at the beginning of the summer.

Notably, the Greek round of the WRC is being held for the 70th time as the Acropolis Rally, and this year marks a new chapter for the “Rally of the Gods”, following the announcement last October of a change of headquarters. After five years with its operational base in Lamia, the Acropolis Rally will now be headquartered in Loutraki, which will also host the service park.

This year’s event features special stages across the Peloponnese, Central Greece and, once again, Attica, where the opening super special stage is scheduled to take place. For 2026, the setting for the Acropolis Rally super special stage is The Ellinikon Sports Park, as the organisers have once again chosen to showcase a different area of the capital, with images broadcast to audiences around the world.

The super special stage is run on tarmac, covering a total distance of 1.86 kilometres, and will feature a parallel layout in which two rally cars compete side by side, providing a highly exciting spectacle.

The Acropolis Rally is regarded as one of the most demanding events of the season, renowned for its rough gravel roads, severe wear and tear, and extreme temperatures, where simply reaching the finish can be just as important as setting a fast stage time.

This year’s Acropolis Rally gets underway on Thursday evening at 19:05, with the super special stage at The Ellinikon Sports Park. Following the opening stage, the rally cars and crews will be transported by ferry from the Port of Corinth to Itea, with competitors spending the night on board before the rally resumes the following day. Friday features six special stages, followed by another six on Saturday, while Sunday’s itinerary consists of the final four stages that will bring the event to a close. The second pass through the Loutraki stage will serve as the rally’s concluding test and will also act as the Power Stage, awarding bonus championship points to the five fastest crews.

The 2026 Acropolis Rally will start with 58 crews, including 12 Rally1-category cars, while a total of 13 entries will represent Greece.
