An impressive waterspout swept over the island of Chios causing damages on Friday. The phenomenon was formed in the sea off the airport of the island in the eastern Aegean Sea.
The waterspout moved from the sea to the shore and caused material damages.
A local reporter who watched the phenomenon described it as “a huge river emptying into the sea, as if you open the water hose and you pour water in a bathtub in full force.” The sea was completely calm, “it was just the river falling violently from the sky.”

The phenomenon reportedly uprooted trees that fell over parked car, swept away awnings from businesses, but also sheet metals, pieces of wood and other items.
Nobody was injured.
According to local media alithia, the water hose stroke just a few minutes after an airplane had landed.
