Piraeus Bank staff will hold a nationwide 24-hour strike on Thursday, Dec 5, 2019, as well as a protest gathering to be held at the labor ministry on the same day.A work stoppage was held on Wednesday.
The Federation of Bank Workers’ Unions (OTOE) said the actions aim to protest the recent layoffs of 24 people by Piraeus Bank.
The Bank blamed the staff for the layoffs, saying that they refused to move to debt collecting company Intrum Hellas. Furthermore they refused to work in local branches of the bank or participate in a program of voluntary withdrawal.
The 24 staff were working together with dozens of others at RBU Corporate at Piraeus Bank.
Last June, Intrum has agreed with Piraeus Bank (“PB”) to acquire PB’s Recovery Management Services platform; Recovery Banking Unit (“RBU”). The RBU will be hived-down into a separate legal entity (“NewCo”), valued at €410m, which will be fully consolidated by Intrum.
