Former president of the European Commission endorsed the narrative of “non-working, lazy and corrupt Greeks,” a slogan massively used during the Greek economic crisis.
In an interview with the Greek service of euronews, Juncker said:
“There were a few. They were enough. Mostly in the so-called “Orthodox north” of the EU, governments, parliaments and public opinion felt that Greece was not doing well, that the Greeks were not working, they were lazy, they were not serious, they were corrupt, they did not care about the benefit of the Eurozone. There is some truth to all this, but in my opinion Greece was treated with no sense of dignity.”
He added that “the Troika did not take into consideration the dignity of the Greek people.”
Juncker stressed that he was against the participation of the International Monetary Fund in the Greek rescue.
He pointed out at the risk of Grexit in the first half of 2015.
Asked about the present and Turkey’s growing challenges to Greece and Cyprus in the Aegean and the eastern Mediterranean, the former president of the European Commission avoided taking a stance. He just said that Turkey should change its behavior if it wants to join the European Union in the future.
“Greece and Cyprus are members of the EU. So it is our responsibility to take into account the Greek and Cypriot views. Turkey is not an EU member, it wants to be. And the chances of Turkey becoming a member will depend on the way it behaves towards Greece and Cyprus. “

…… What unlike those hard working and honest EU bureaucrats in Brussels and the hardworking and honest private bankers of Luxumbourg. He must be kidding:
