Air China is suspending direct flights between Athens and Beijing from February 17 to March 18 due to the continuous increase of new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) infections.
The measure is precaution to stem the coronavirus outbreak, and with the aim being the passengers’ safety.,
“The reason is public safety because of the coronavirus and there are operational reasons as well,” an officer at the airline’s Athens office told Reuters.
Due to the continuing increase in new cases of coronation, several cancellations have been made by travelers, so the company, aiming at its passenger safety, has decided to freeze flights from Beijing to Athens and vice versa from 2 to 18 March. as well as on March 25th, 2020, Greek media reported.
In addition, due to changes in domestic flights in China, the company is modifying the routes connecting the country with foreign destinations.
Air China is to issue a new statement about the Athens-Beijing flights in the coming days.
Air China currently flies to Athens from Beijing three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
Suspending direct flights will not stop people travelling between countries. It makes no sense that all flights where passengers flying from China have entered Europe via other countries and proceeded to Athens are not checked for virus.
