Workers are all public transport means in Athens will join the 24-hour general strike on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, leaving hundreds of thousands of commuters with no option other than use their own car, if they have any, taxi, if they find any, walk to workplace or stay at home.
The unions strike decision affects:
Athens Metro Lines 2 to/from Athens airport and 3, Urban Train ISAP (Metro Line 1), Tram, blue buses and trolley buses.
The Union of Proastiakos workers is still to announce its decision.
With the general strike announced by the public and private sector, Greece’s unions protest the new “Social Security Law.”
According to the unions, the new Law, scraps the 13th pension given by SYRIZA in May 2019, cuts pensions to more than 1,000,000 pensioners, increases social contributions to self-employed and free lancers, privatize “social security” and sends thousands of new workers to the private insurance funds.
Ferries and ships will remain docked on the strike day due to the participation of seamen to the mobilization.
