Coronavirus: Greece confirms 21 new cases, total infections rise to 66

Greek health authorities announced Saturday night 21 new confirmed cases of coronavirus. The total number of inflections in the country rises to 66. Of those 51 are linked to a group of pilgrims who had traveled to Israel and Egypt and returned to Greece end of February.

All 66 confirmed cases are Greek nationals.

From the new 21 cases, 13 are in the prefecture of Achaia and Ilia, 7 in the prefecture of Attica and 1 in the Prefecture of Evia.

From the pilgrims’ group confirmed coronavirus positive are 47 group members and 4 contacts they had upon their return.

One of the travelers is hospitalized with severe pneumonia in the Intensive Care Unit of the university hospital in Patras, West Peloponnese.at the Patient Care Unit of Patras.

All the others are in stable condition and their health surveillance continues. 22 are hospitalized in Attica, Thessaloniki and Patras and 43 remain in “home isolation.”

Health authorities are in the process of tracking the contacts of the new confirmed cases.

All confirmed cases were infected either during travel to North Italy or to Israel.

Two more groups of pilgrims, a total of 81 people, returned in the last two days. Approximately 50 of them are elderly in Ionannina, Epirus, NW Greece. Theywere put in “preventive house isolation” upon their arrival.

When 14 new confirmed coronavirus cases were announced on Friday, some local authorities and health experts proposed the closure of education institutions.

The Greek government is reportedly to announce new measures for schools on Sunday.

Health authorities urge citizens to follow instructions for personal hygiene, especially the vulnerable groups of the society like elderly and those with chronic health problems.

However, face masks have “disappeared” in the last two weeks, and so have portable hands disinfectants, tissues with high percentage of alcohol and whatever else one would need if one has to go out of home to work or settle things in the real world.

PS Should we go already into “voluntary house isolation” because we cannot protect ourselves or our families?
