Greece has confirmed on Wednesday 10 new cases of coronavirus in the country, raising the number of total inflections to 99. Two of the patients are in Intensive Care Units in the RIO hospital in Patras and AHEPA in Thessaloniki.
95 of the infected are Greek nationals, 4 are foreign nationals, a statement issued by the health authorities said.
29 of the cases are in hospitalized in Attica, Patras, Thessaloniki and Mytilene on the island of Lesvos.
68 confirmed cases are in house isolation.
In ICU in Patras is the 67-year-old pilgrim who returned from Israel. In ICU in Thessaloniki is a 53-year-old man from Siatista, Kozani in West Macedonia. The man has no recent travel history but works in the public hospital in Kozani.
According to state broadcaster ERT TV, the results of coronavirus tests of five more “suspected cases” from Larissa, Central Greece are expected today, Wednesday. Among them is an 18-year-old boy who developed high fever after returning from Zurich, Switzerland. Also “suspect” is a 60-year-old couple that had visited the Holy Land (Israel) and their 30-year-old son.
With the number of infections rising on daily basis, Greece ordered the closure of all schools, kindergartens and universities for 14 days.
Upon decision of the Prime Minister and Regional Governors, all school parades for the War of Independence holiday on March 25 have been cancelled. Small delegations will be allowed to put wreaths at monuments to honor the heroes of the struggle against the Ottoman Empire.
It is still unclear whether the military parades will take place.
