What do you do if there is a national holiday and you are not allowed to go out to celebrate? The Mayor of Glyfada in south Athens had an idea on the occasion of the Greek Independence Day on March 25.
He called on residents to go out in the balconies and sing the national anthem.
At 11 o’ clock Wednesday morning the church bells started to toll calling the residents to go to their balconies, the Municipality dispatched vehicles with loudspeakers to several neighborhoods and the event “celebrate in lockdown conditions” started.
Many municipalities across the country reportedly followed the example of Glyfada.
