Five more patients died in the past 24 hours in Greece increasing the number of coronavirus deaths to 130. health authorities announced on Friday. 27 new confirmed cases raised the total number of infections to 2,490.
48 patients are intubated in hospitals intensive care units. 13 of them are women. 88% of ICU patients have underlying health issues or are over 70 years of age.
A total of 60 people have been discharged from ICUs, so far.
Among the 130 dead, were 34 women.
90% of the dead had underlying health issues or their average age was 70 years or more. The average age of the dead was 74.
61,407 Covid-19 tests have been conducted since the start of the outbreak.
High risk patients
Regarding patients with underlying health issues, spokesman of the National Health Organization and Professor for Infectious Diseases Sotiris Tsiodras said that based on recent data, most at risk are those suffering from
- heart problems at 19.4%
- chronic respiratory problems excluding asthma at 16.5%
- not regulated diabetes at 14.8%
- not regulated high blood pressure at 11.6%
- kidney patients at 9.5%
Coronavirus outbreak in private clinic
Regarding the private clinic in Peristeri suburb of western Athens, 37 of the 226 patients and employees have tested positive for coronavirus. 17 are clinic employees placed in house isolation.
17 patients tested positive have been transferred to other healthcare facilities, while 3 people with Covid-19 have died.
The patients that tested negative for coronavirus are under medical supervision and are taking preventative medication.
“It is a significant epidemic in a high-risk setting. All the necessary measures have been taken and we are at their side to stop the problem,” said the health ministry’s spokesperson Sotiris Tsiodras, who visited the clinic earlier on Friday.
