Coronavirus Greece: Deaths rise to 147; 21 new cases, 11 of them in military hospital

One more COVID-19 patient died in the last 24 hours raising the number of deaths to 147, Greece’s health authorities said on Wednesday. 21 new confirmed cases of coronavirus brought the number of total infections to 2,663.

36 patients are intubated in hospitals intensive care units.

A total of 81 patients have been discharged from the ICUs, so far.

83,750 tests have been conducted since the outbreak in late February.

Eleven of the new confirmed cases are in a structure, the spokesman of National Health Organization Sotirsi Tsiodras noted.

According to media, the eleven cases have been confirmed in the “401 military hospital” in Athens.

In a press release issued later on Wednesday, the Ministry the National Defense said that one member of the Greek Armed Forces and one retired member of the Greek Police were tested positive to COVID-19. Tested positive are also two members of the first patient’s family, one visitor, three private nurses and three patients hospitalized in the same ward who are not active military personnel, the statement clarified.

The Defense Ministry dismissed media reports that “several members of the Armed Forced were infected” with coronavirus.
