Primary schools, pre-schools, kindergartens and special schools in Greece opened their gates again on Monday, after having being shut down for two and a half months due to the coronavirus pandemic and the imposed lockdown.
It is unusual to see these schools open on June 1, when they normally run until June 15.
This time the primary schools will remain open until June 26.
The schools opened with a series of safety measures, social distancing, a distance of 1.5 m between desks and no more than 15 pupils per class.
The use of mask by both education staff and pupils is optional.
In some schools, pupils have to attend classes and class breaks in rotation.
School canteens remain closed.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Education Minister Niki Kerameos paid a visit to a primary school in Kallithea suburb of South Athens.
