Coronavirus Greece: 9 new confirmed cases, one more death

Nine new confirmed cases and one more death have been recorded in the last 24 hours, Greece’s health authorities announced on Tuesday evening.

Total infections stand at 3,058 and death toll at 183. Men are 55.1% of the infected.

Of the total cases, 690 people were were  infected during a travel abroad and 1,740 were infected by already known cases.

Ten patients are intubated in hospitals Intensive Care Units, their average age is 70.

Four of them are women.

70% of the intubated patients have underlying health issues or are over 70 years old.

A total of 115 patients have been discharged from ICUs since the outbreak in late February.

Among the 183 deceased were 56 women.

Average age of the deceases was 76.

The overwhelming majority (95.6%) of the deceased had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.

Greek health authorities resumed the daily briefing of coronavirus new cases after alarming 97 new cases were recorded between June 4 and June 8. Among them were 30 travelers who had arrived in Greece from abroad.

On Tuesday, the Greek government decided to increase testing and impose restrictions locally, in areas where clusters of coronavirus infections are reported.

The measures were decided upon, just days before the country opens its gates to foreign tourists on June 15.
