Coronavirus Greece: 10 new cases, total 3237; death toll rises to 189

Greece’s health authorities announced on Friday evening 10 new confirmed coronavirus cases and one more death in the last 24 hours. The number of total infections stands at 3,237 and death toll at 189.

Among the new cases, 4 were detected to people who arrived in Greece from abroad. Three of the infected people arrived per land and one was on a flight to Athens.

2 new cases were detected in the prefecture of Xanthi where village Echinos is under quarantine since Thursday morning and 4 in the prefecture of Rodopi where one community is under soft lockdown. Both regional units are in northeastern Greece.

According to the statement of the Greek Health Ministry on Friday, 55% of the total infections affect men.

Of the total cases, 707 are related to travel abroad and 1,813 were infected by already known cases.

10 patients are intubated in hospitals Intensive Care Units. Their average age is 73, among them are three women. 80% of them have underlying health issues or are over 70 years old.

A total of 117 patients have been discharged from intensive care units.

Among the 189 deceased were 59 women.

Average age of the deceased 76, the overwhelming majority, 95.8%  had underlying health problem and/or were over 70 years old.

A total of 274,711 tests have been conducted since 1. January 2020.

With very few exceptions, the number of daily tests reportedly stands at 3,000 per day.

From June 1 to 18, the confirmed cases reached 309, while they were 147 in the last 18 days of May, some media report.

  1. Around 270700 tests have been done since January? Then it simply is not true that the number of daily testing is 3000. It’s much lower number of testing. And it’s a very small percent of tests in relation to the total population number of Greece. I love Greece very much and that is why I carefully follow the information about the epidemic.     • they have increased since they lifted lockdown and since June 15 when they opened to foreign tourists.
