Coronavirus deaths in Greece rise to 192

Deaths related to coronavirus rose to 192,  after a 79-year-old man passed away on Tuesday morning. the patient was in the Intensive Care Unit of Attikon hospital in western Athens.

It is the first death recorded in the country since last Thursday.

Accoridng to official data, among the 192 deceased were 61 women (31.9%).

The average age of the deceased was 76, and 95.8% had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.

In its daily briefing on the course of the pandemic in the country, the Health Ministry said that the total number of infections on Monday was 3,390.

15 new cases were added in the past 24 hours. 12 of them were detected in the region on Xanthi, Thrace, north-eastern Greece. Restriction measures have been implemented since last week due to an increase of infections. Health teams are tracking the contacts of the new confirmed cases.

Another 3 confirmed cases have been detected in passengers who arrived per airplanes.

“Imported” cases are single-digit, however, daily ever since the country opened its borders to travelers from abroad on June 15.

Health experts are ringing the “alarm bell” as the country opens all borders including regional airports on July 1, the government reassures that it is perfectly equipped should the number of infections increase due to travelers.
