10 cases among flight passengers, Swedish tourist breaks self-isolation

Five cases of coronavirus have been detected in the first 1,400 molecular tests, out of a total of 5,889, on flight passengers on July 1. According to media information, tested positive are three women from Sweden, Serbia, Romania as well as a Greek couple.

Since late Thursday, authorities have been trying to track the contacts of these confirmed cases, but also to have these tourists transferred to quarantine hotels, as provided by the health protocols implemented in Greece.

It is worth noting that the woman from Sweden did not comply with the 24-hour self-isolation as provided by the Greek health protocols for those arriving from abroad who have undergone COVID-19 test.

The tourist was reportedly located waking around in Athens.

The woman from Serbia who was tested positive was among 66 molecular tests conducted the the airport of the island of Skiathos.

Greece opened its gates to tourists on July 1.

Direct flights from/to UK, Sweden and Turkey are banned until July 15.

Yet on Thursday, a TUI charter landed on the island of Rhodes with 120 tourists from Stockholm, causing uproar among the company’s competitors. The flight had a “special permission,” Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis told media.

Some media reported that it was the second direct flight from Sweden, after another one had landed at the Athens airport on July 1, also with special permission.

According to latest media information, among 3,611 coronavirus tests conducted at airports and gates of arrivals a total of 11 travelers were tested positive.

According to the official statement on July 2, seven imported cases were recorded in the past 24 hours. 2 in Promachonas crossing with Bulgaria, 1 from Bosnia, 1 from Bulgaria, 1 from Albania, 1 from India (transit via Holland) and 1 from USA on the island of Karpathos.

You may note that the numbers seem a bit confusing, but take into consideration that test results need up to 36 hours and some come out after the daily press release by the health authorities.

  1. No exceptions! No “special permissions[s].” It only takes one super-spreader to wreak damage. And, it someone breaks quarantine, the police should bounce her a** out of the country after levying a huge fine. Disgusting behavior that puts us all at risk.

  2. just shows what giving in to tui brings you.tourist who broke quarantine should be heavily fined deported and never allowed back

  3. Firms are trying to exist and survive in this climate, but those who openly flout these rules should be prosecuted and heavily fined. This is a serious worldwide virus, that will wreak havoc around the world, until selfish idiots stop trying to do whatever they want. Proper lockdown needed worldwide

  4. All Swedish TUI flights should be excluded from Greece for the rest of the year. They have done very little to control this virus yet Mr Thoecharis deems it acceptable to give TUI special permission for this and another flight supposedly containing journalists and travel correspondents to land, when in fact it only had tourists en board. TUI must have known this. To cap it all one of their citizens breaks quarantine and goes for a walk around Athens. You couldn’t make it up. Disgraceful.

  5. The Swedish tourist should be prosecuted for (at least) attempting a mass murder.

I will never use TUI again in this lifetime. They have shown they couldn’t care less about wellbeing of anyone else and are actively trying to spread corona around the world.

  6. I’m just sad Swedish people are allowed into Greece. We’ve been there every summer for years and were already planning to come again, but if Swedes are allowed, we will rather stay home. Life is short enough without risking it needlessly as it’s certain the Swedish will flock to holidays regardless of their condition and they have already shown their complete lack of ability to follow rules.

  7. All the Swedish passenger from Rhodes was tested not randomly, and there is nothing about it means nobody had covid 19 .
If that is the case the reporters and media should apologize to the Swedish people since they paint them like tuberculosis, leprosy people. There is more infected tourists coming from other countries like Serbia Bulgaria Romania etc. and they are been tested randomly and not all like Swedish tourists.
Swedish tourists is one the first that come to Rhodes island.donot forget that , have the facts before you talking about something media. But nowadays is not about if the rapport is correct or fake as long as rapports are first with a story. Amateurs

    • But then again, Swedes have already shown that they do not give a sh** about the virus, since Sweden has nearly the biggest rate of the virus per capita in Europe. I would not want Swedes near me on a holiday either.
