Greece: 60 new coronavirus cases, 42 of them among travellers

New confirmed coronavirus cases rose again to 60 on Friday, with 42 of them to have been detected among travellers to the country, Greece’s health authorities announced in the evening. The spike comes following news of at least “29 cases at Promachonas crossing with Bulgaria” earlier today that forced the Greek government to take drastic measures and demand a “negative” Covid-19 test by all tourists using the border with the neighboring country before they enter Greece.

The number of total infections has increased to 3,732 (daily growth 1.6% from 1.4% on Thursday), with 213 new cases alone in during July 6-10, 2020.

The good news is that there has been no new death in the last four days and therefore the death toll remains at 193.

40 of the new coronavirus confirmed cases have been detected at the entry points in Greece.

2 patients (travellers) voluntarily sought laboratories for Covid-19 test in the country after experiencing some symptoms. They were tested positive.

The majority of the remaining cases are located in northern Greece, Macedonia and Thrace. Specifically, the new cases are:

8 in Thessaloniki, 1 in Kozani, 1 in Imathiaa, 1 in Xanthi.

For second consecutive day, there is an increase of infections in Attica with 7 new cases again.

According to the Health Ministry statement on Friday, of 3,732 cases in total 54.5% affect men.

Of the total cases, 962 are related to travel abroad, 1,962 are related to an already known case. The rest are not related to travel or another known case or are still under investigation.

Average age of the infected in 49 with age range between 0 and 102.

9 patients are intubated in ICUs.. Their average age is 58 years old, among them are 3 women. 88.9% of the patients have underlying health issues or are over 70 years old.

123 patients have been discharged from the ICUs since the beginning of the outbreak.

Number of coronavirus-related deaths stands at 193.

Among the deceased were 62 women. The average age of the deceased was 76 with range age between 35 and 102.

95.9% had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.

According to the Health Ministry on Thursday, a total of 363,412 tests have been conducted since beginning of the year, 5,894 (1.6%) are positive. The data include several tests conducted on a single patient, as well.

39,444 (10.9%) tests have been conducted among flight passengers since June 12, the EODY statement said, adding that 78 (0.2%) are positive.

PS things start to get critical in Greece, when the daily infections are above 50, health experts have said.

  1. I agree with testing but we don t have time to take the tests and receive the results until leaving. They should have announced this earlier.
