58 new confirmed coronavirus cases with 34 of them located among tourists in Greece, the country’s health authorities announce don Tuesday evening. The number of total infections has increased to 3,883 with the daily growth at 1.5%.
Ever since Greece opened its gates to international travellers, infections rose to 422 in the period July 1-14, 2020, compared to 300 in June. 236 of the July infections were detected among tourists.
Also the number of hospitalizations (in normal wards and in ICUs) rose to 80 in July from 41 on June 30.
According to health experts, there is spread among the general population as the number of “unsourced” confirmed cases has increased in the last couple of days. Traces of coronavirus have been found in the sewage of Thessaloniki at levels similar of the last days of April.
The good news is that no new death has been recorded in over a week and the death toll remains at 193.
Geographical distribution July 14
Confirmed cases increased in Athens and Thessaloniki again.
28 of the new coronavirus confirmed cases have been detected at the entry points in Greece.
Another 6 travellers voluntarily sought laboratories for Covid-19 test in the country after they developed some symptoms. They were tested positive.
The remaining new cases are:
8 in Attica and 7 in Thessaloniki.
3 on the island of Lesvos
2 in Xanthi and 1 in Kozani, 1 in Arta, 1 in Imathia and 1 in Haldikdiki.
A Serbian family currently on vacation on Leftada were tested positive. First to develop symptoms was the father, then his wife. The children aged 2, 6 and 8, were tested positive as well. The family was on yacht.
An 85-year-old man has been hospitalized with respiratory infection in Lesvos. Tested positive are also two members of his family that had hosted visitors from northern Greece.
One more girl from the children’s summer camp in Halkidiki has been tested positive. The 11-year-old is at home in self-isolation. The first test showed low load of the virus, the results of the second test are expected. The girl was sharing the same cabin as the first case, a 15-year-old girl.

According to the Health Ministry statement on Tuesday, 54.7% of the total of 3,803 cases affect men.
Of the total cases, 1042 (26.8%) are related to travel abroad, 2,019 (52%) are related to an already known case. The rest are not related to travel or another known case or are still under investigation.
Average age of the infected in 49 with age range between 0 and 102.
Number of intubated patients in ICUs has increased to 13.. Their average age is 58 years old, among them are 3 women. 76.9% of the intubated patients have underlying health issues or are over 70 years old.
122 patients have been discharged from the ICUs since the beginning of the outbreak.
Number of coronavirus-related deaths remains at 193.
Among the deceased were 62 women. The average age of the deceased was 76 with range age between 35 and 102.
95.9% had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.
Tests
According to the Health Ministry on Tuesday, a total of 386,307 tests have been conducted since beginning of the year, 6,041 (1.6%) are positive. The data include several tests conducted on a single patient, as well.
42,002 (10.9%) tests have been conducted among flight passengers since June 12, the EODY statement said, adding that 88 (0.2%) are positive.
Due to increased cases at Promachonas border-crossing whit Bulgaria, arriving tourists have to show a “negative Covid-19 test” as of Wednesday, July 15, 2020.
At the same time, an increase among the local population has been recorded since last week.
Despite the spike and while Greece is considering new restrictions, it also resumes flights from UK, Sweden and soon also from the USA.
PS things start to get critical in Greece, when the daily infections are above 50, health experts have said.
