Greek Police is warning of a malicious message sent as sms to mobile phones that is calling Greeks to general mobilization. The message is calling citizens to report to the nearest Police station in order to allegedly receive their documents by the General Staff and be embedded to a “military incident.”
Senders appear to be the Greek Ministry of the National Defense.
It is “an obviously deceptive message,” the Police warns asking receivers to ignore it.

The Cyber-crime Prosecution Directorate of the Hellenic Police is conducting an investigation regarding the sms, Police said in a statement issued on Thursday afternoon.
The message is sent amid escalating tension between Greece and Turkey in the last couple of days due to Ankara’s plan to conduct hydrocarbon survey in Greek territorial waters.
Ever since the escalation on Tuesday, social media are full of messages by alleged patriots calling on Greeks with nationalistic slogans and religious hymns to go fight against Turkey. Many account holders seem to be from abroad.
