26 new coronavirus cases in Greece, 10 among tourists; total 4135

Greece’s health authorities announced on Friday evening 26 new confirmed coronavirus cases, with 10 of them to have been detected among tourists. According to the official statement, total infections in Greece stand at 4,135 and the death toll remains 201.

The growth from Thursday to Friday is 0.6%.

The majority of the new infections are among tourists and in Attica, where the confirmed infections have reportedly reached 125 in the last 24 days. In Thessaloniki the number of new infections reached 69 since beginning of the month

In Attica and Thessaloniki many of the infections are “unsourced”, a cause of concern for epidemiologists.

Geographical distribution July 24

The new 26 cases have been detected:

6  at the entry points in Greece.

4 more travellers voluntarily sought laboratories for Covid-19 test in the country after they developed some symptoms. They were tested positive.

The remaining new cases are:

8 in Attica and 5 in Thessaloniki

Each one (1) is in Magnisia, in Halkidiki and in Kavala.

Two infants have been tested positive in Athens. They were initially taken to the hospital due to symptoms, were tested and then returned home where they will be in self-isolation together with their families.

Two cleaners at Evangelismos hospital in Athens were tested positive.

One British tourist currently on the island of Corfu was tested positive as well. He was taken to quarantine hospital and so did the 4 other members of his family as precaution measure. According to local corfunewstv, 13 of a total 16 confirmed cases are in quarantine hotels, while the remaining 3 are in hospitals.

General information July 24

According to the Health Ministry statement on Friday, 54.6% of the total of infections affect men.

Of the total coronavirus cases, 1,155 (27.9%)  are related to travel abroad, 2,086 (50.4%) are related to an already known case. The rest are not related to travel or another known case or are still under investigation.

Average age of the infected in 49 with age range between 0 and 102.

8 patients are intubated in ICUs, among them is one woman. The average age of the intubated patients is 58 years old.  75% of the intubated patients have underlying health issues or are over 70 years old.

127 patients have been discharged from the ICUs since the beginning of the outbreak.

Number of coronavirus-related deaths remains at 201.

Among the deceased were 66 women. The average age of the deceased was 76 with range age between 35 and 102.

96% had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.

Tests

According to the Health Ministry on Friday, a total of 436,510 tests have been conducted since beginning of the year, 6,202 (1.4%) are positive. The data include several tests conducted on a single patient, as well.

46,893 (11.4%) tests have been conducted among flight passengers since June 12, the EODY statement said on Sunday, adding that 93 (0.2%) are positive.

This latest section of information has been removed from the daily report since Monday.

Head  of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias announced earlier on Tuesday the number of tests conducted at the Greek entry points and the number of “imported” cases for the time period July 1-19, 2020.
