Sunbathers at Agia Anna on Naxos were stunned to see a loggerhead sea turtle coming ashore. The animal was injured in the hind legs with fisherman’s hooks.
People at the beach rushed to offer help to the injured animal.
Bathers rushed to offer the turtle help, with water and cool towels and called the Greek Coast Guard.
The turtle is purportedly male and some 60 kg heavy.
He was taken to the vet in order to have the hooks remove. Medicine is due for 2-3 days and then he will be taken back to the sea.
It is worth noting that in the summer season amateur fishermen should be especially careful as in the Aegean islands there are dozens of visits by loggerhead turtles and seals.
