Israel rush to express solidarity with Greece even if with delay

Israel rushed to express its solidarity with Greece via multiple channels on Wednesday even if with delay as the tension with Turkey in the East Mediterranean Sea has been ongoing since Monday.

“Israel is cautiously monitoring the increase in tension in the Eastern Mediterranean,” the Israeli Embassy in Athens tweeted. “Israel expresses its full support and solidarity with Greece over its maritime zones and the right to determine its exclusive economic zone (EEZ),” the tweet writen in Greek said.

A similar tweet was posted later by the spokesperson of the Israel Foreign Ministry.

The tweets preceded a meeting of the Israeli Ambassador Yossi Amrani with Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias.

The talks focused on bilateral issues as well as the Turkish violations, the Foreign Ministry announced in a tweet.

Israel has vital interests in the area due to East Med gas pipeline, and as some Greek minister like the Development Minister said “the clear condemnation od Turkish activities came from our real and natural ally in the East Mediterranean, Israel! We thank it and never forget our friends.”
