Live government briefings on the course of the coronavirus will be held twice a week and with participation of Greece’s epidemiologist Sotiris Tsiodras. This was announced by government spokesman Stelios Petas on Monday, an indication that things do not go well.
Next to Tsiodras will be head of Civil Protection and Deputy Minister for Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias and Deputy Health Minister Vassilis Kontozamanis.
The head of the coronavirus advisory committee, Professor for Infectious Diseases, Sotiris Tsiodras, will be replaced by . Professor for Hygiene and Epidemiology and also committee member Gkikas Magiorkinis, when necessary
The briefings will be held twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, at 6 pm.
Hardalias and Tsiodras held daily briefings on coronavirus during the outbreak in spring. When the situation improved, the briefings were halted in May.
“When you will see us here again, it will mean that things are not going well,” Hardalias told Greeks.
Live briefings resumed by head of Civil Protection end of July even if in weekly form.
The month of August has seen an increase of infections – over 4,300 from a total of 8,819 since the outbreak in late February – that concerns the country’s authorities that plan to open schools in early September.
Apparently authorities thought that live briefings are essential again so the people stick with the protective measures.
PS our top epidemiologists and other authorities will now have the opportunity twice a week to also inform us on such an important issue such as: what went wrong and infections doubled in August compared to the whole 5 other months. And please, do not come up with the usual “it’s the youth crowding in bars in urban centers and islands.” This is meanwhile a cliche. Some self-criticism never harmed people in power.
