Eighteen elderly and one employee in a care home in Athens have been tested positive in Covid-19 and a big operation is underway to transfer the infected seniors to hospitals. The news was reported by the Civil Protection and the National Public Health Organization (EODY) reported on Wednesday evening.
Eight seniors have so far been transferred to the Pamakaristos clinic, while another ten will be reportedly taken to Evangelismos public hospital. Only one of them has reportedly fever, while the rest is asymptomatic.
According to Attica Regional Governor Giorgos Patoulis, a total of 140 people in the facility have been tested and 19 were positive. Patoulis told media that authorities had an information that there was possibly an infected person in the care facility.
The relatives of the elderly have been informed, health teams have started the tracking in the nursing home in Marousi, suburb of northern Athens..
Speaking to media on Thursday morning, the lawyer of the facility said that there was a “suspected infection” on August 28th and that an employee was tested positive in the third Covid-19 test, while the two first were negative.
Authorities are on alert and want to avoid a similar disaster such as in the nursing home in Asvestochori by Thessaloniki that counts 21 dead. The latest victim is an 81-year-old man who died in a hospital in Thessaloniki on Wednesday evening.
