Greece Coronavirus: 241 new cases; 5 more deaths raise death toll to 278

241 new confirmed coronavirus cases and 5 more deaths have been recorded in Greece in the last 24 hours, health authorities announced on Thursday evening. The total infections stand at 10,998 and the death toll at 278.

Of the new cases, 31 were detected among tourists: 20 at the entrance gates and 6 to people already in the country.

It is estimated that there are currently 3,100 active cases, with almost half of them without known source of contamination. The spread of the coronavirus is ongoing even though a bit lower than in the previous two weeks.

According to the official daily bulletin on Thursday, 2174 (19.8%) of the total cases are related to travel abroad and 4843(44%) are related to already known infection case.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs increased to 39 form 38 yesterday. Their average age is 68, among them are 10 women. 92.3% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

154 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Five more deaths have raised death toll to 278.  Of the deceased 102 were women. Their average age was 78 and 96% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 212 from 237 last week.

Total tests since begin of outbreak are 992.566.

Tests in the last 24 hours: 12.016 with 2.01% of them positive.

Of the 241 new coronavirus cases, 210 are domestic, of them 25 are linked to recent travel within the country and 11 to known clusters.

31 of the new cases were detected at entry points  -and another 0 travelers sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.

Health authorities have placed the nursing home in Maroussi under quarantine for 10 day, after 19 elderly and one member of the staff were tested positive.

Three government ministers have been placed under quarantine after contacted a foreign investor tested positive to Covid-19. The building housing two ministries has been evacuated and sealed in order to be disinfected for the same reason.

Te Athens Municipality’s halfway house for homeless people who are addicted to drugs or other substances has been quarantined after one Covid-19 case was confirmed there on Thursday. health teams will now test all 80 of the facility’s beneficiaries and the 33 members of staff, including 2 doctors and 6 nurses
