Coronavirus Greece: 339 new cases, 2 more deaths in past 24 hours

Greece recorded 339 new coronavirus cases and two deaths in the last 24 hours, health authorities announced  on Friday evening. Short after the daily bulletin was out one more Covi-19 patient passed away.

Total infections have reached 14,738 and death toll 328.

40 of the new cases have been detected among tourists and 64 are linked to known clusters.

For one more day the majority of the domestic cases have been recorded in Attica.

Number of infections and hospitalizations doubled in the last two weeks, after large parts of residents in Greek capital Athens and the broader Attica region returned from summer vacations, said Gkikas Mayorkinis, health ministry spokesman at the weekly live briefing.

Ever since, the daily cases are constantly at three-digit level.

Of the 4049 active infections, 2100 are in Attica.

Health and Civil Protection authorities announced on Friday stricter additional measures for Attica, following the epidemiological statistics. The measures go in force on Sept 21 and for 14 days.

According to the official daily bulletin on Friday,  2541(17.2%) of the total cases are related to travel abroad and 6191(42%) are related to already known infection case.

55.7% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs increased to 71 from 69 on Thursday. Their average age is 69, among them are 20 women. 87.3% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

Note that the majority of Covid-19 patients who die are usually also intubated. Therefore the number of intubations increase daily and in numbers higher than they seem.

177 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Two more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 327.  Of the deceased 122 were women. The average age of the deceased was 78 and 96.6% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 287 from 223 last week.

Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,181,712.

Tests in the last 24 hours: 11,420 with 2.97% of them positive.

Daily growth at +2.4%.

Of the 339 new coronavirus cases, 64 are related to known clusters and 39 were detected at the country’s entry points.

39 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 1 traveler already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.

12 Thessaloniki

17 Larissa, 9 Kozani

13 Lesvos (10 Moria refugees)

11 Trikala

20 under investigation

Each 7 in Samos, Ioannina

Each 4 in Pieria, Imathia

Each 3 in Halkidiki, Rhodes, Corinth, Kastoria

Each 2 in Kavala, Magnisia, Kilkis, Heraklio, Evros, Achaia

Each 1 in Florina, Fthiotida, Preveza, Karditsa, Kalymnos, Evia, Grevena
