358 new coronavirus cases and 5 more deaths have been recorded in Greece in the past 24 hours, authorities announced on Wednesday. 56 of the new cases are linked to known clusters and 46 have been detected among tourists.
Total infections reached 16,286 and deaths toll increased to 357.
In the last couple of days, the number of daily cases are steadily over 300.
Again, the majority of daily infections are located in Attica and specifically in the center of capital Athens. Greek officials have signaled a “lockdown in Attica” should the latest restrictions do not manage to flatten the pandemic curve.
34 cases have been also detected in the refugee centers on Lesvos (new camp in Kara Tepe) and Samos.
As the coronavirus cases are putting increased pressure on the health system and the trend of mask-deniers grows, the prosecutor of the country’s Supreme Court has targeted mask-deniers, threatening them with arrests and imprisonment.
There is a whole debate about the number of available ICU beds for Covid-19 patients in Athens. President of ICU doctors Anastasia Kotanidou said that of the 107 ICU beds in Attica for COVID-19 40% were not occupied.

According to the official daily bulletin on Wednesday 2696(16.6%) of the total cases are related to travel abroad and 6808(41.8%) are related to already known infection case.
55.8% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated patients in ICUs decreased to 73 from 77 on Tuesday. Their average age is 68 among them are 20 women. 89% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
191 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Five more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 357. Of the deceased 132 were women. The average age of the deceased was 78 and 96.9% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.
Average deaths per week lie at 5.7. At the peak of the pandemic the average weekly deaths was 5.1
Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,233,229.
Tests in the last 24 hours: 12,2012 with 2.93% of them positive.
Daily growth at +2.2%.
