9 more deaths and 342 new coronavirus cases in Greece in past 24 hours

342 new coronavirus cases and 9 more deaths have been recorded in Greece in the past 24 hours, authorities announced on Thursday. 24 of the new cases are linked to known clusters and 30 have been detected among tourists.

Total infections reached 16,627 and deaths toll increased to 366.

In the last couple of days, the number of daily cases are steadily over 300.

Again, the majority of daily infections – more than half – are located in Attica.

As the coronavirus cases are putting increased pressure on the health system and the trend of mask-deniers grows, the prosecutor of the country’s Supreme Court has targeted mask-deniers, threatening them with arrests and imprisonment.

There is a whole debate about the number of available ICU beds for Covid-19 patients in Athens. President of ICU doctors Anastasia Kotanidou said that of the 107 ICU beds in Attica for COVID-19 40% were not occupied.

According to the official daily bulletin on Thursday 2726(16.4%) of the total cases are related to travel abroad and 6915(41.6%) are related to already known infection case.

Almost half of the cases have unknown origin.

55.7% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs decreased to 68 from 73 a day earlier. Their average age is 68 among them are 21 women. 86.8 have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

192 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Nine more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 366.  Of the deceased 135 were women. The average age of the deceased was 78 and 97% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Average deaths per week lie at 5.7. At the peak of the pandemic the average weekly deaths was 5.1

Rolling weekly average cases at 321 from 280 last week.

Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,246,363.

Tests in the last 24 hours: 13,134 with 2.6% of them positive.

Daily growth at +2.1%.

Of the 342 new coronavirus cases, 24 are related to known clusters and 30 were detected at the country’s entry points.

Majority of new cases are recorded in Attica

30 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 0 travelers already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.

Each 7 in Serres, Ioannina

6 Fthiotida

5 Samos (all 17 in refugee camp)

Each 4 in Pella, Larissa, Viotia

Each 3  Trikala, Kastoria

Each 2 in Rhodes, Preveza, Evia, Argolida

Each 1 in Chios, Florina, Tinos, Syros, Pieria, Paros, Messinia, Lesvos, Corinth, Kozani, Kea/Kythnos, Grevena, Achaia, Aitoloakarnaia
