The leader of neo-nazi Golden Dawn party, Nikos Michaloliakos, was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment for establishing and running a “criminal organization” plus 1 more year and 1,000 euros fine for arms possession.
Giorgos Roupakias was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder 33-year-old rapper Pavlos Fyssas plus 4 years for the use of weapon, 4 years for weapon possession and 10 years for participating in a criminal organization.
After 459 court sessions and 5.5 years, the Court of Appeals announced Wednesday noon the sentences for the convicted Golden Dawn leadership and members, the murderer of Fyssas and his accomplices as well as for those involved in attacks against Egyptian fishermen and unionists of PAME.
The GD leadership received nearly the maximum sentence, which is 15 years.
5 former MPs including active MEP Giannis Lagos, all convicted to leadership of a criminal organization, were sentenced to 13 years in jail for “establishing and running a criminal organization.” One ex MP received 10 years.
4 ex MPs for which the court adopted “mitigating circumstances” received 5 years in jail.
Other former MPs got 5-7 years.
Roupakias’ accomplices 6-8 years in jail.
Attacks against Egyptian fishermen: 6 years for attempted murder.
Attacks at PAME unionists: 2 years and 16 months for use of weapons
Next step is for the court to decide which terms will be suspended and convicts will be set under probation and who is going to begin their sentence before the hearing at the second degree court.
Arrests will be carried out after the court hears final arguments by defendants’ lawyers for probation considerations.
Only 7 out of 58 defendants were present at the Court. Among the convicts are 18 former MPs.
Judges will also decide if and who is going to begin their sentence before the hearing at the second degree court. They may decide to suspend some sentences until that process.
Greek Police sources told media that they are ready to arrest the convicts as soon as the Court issues the orders.
