Single e-pass for all motorways in Greece to be launched on Nov 4

The interoperability of the e-tolls in all Greek motorways will be in full operation on Wednesday 4 November, 2020, the General Secretary for Infrastructure Giorgos Karagiannis stated over the weekend.

In practice, the motorist will have only one toll transceiver to pass through all the Greek motorways: Attiki Odos, Egnatia Odos, Nea Odos, Kentriki Odos, Motorway of Aegean, Rio Bridge, Olympia Odos and Moreas.

“The motorways introperability, the single e-pass, was something that was in our priorities as what is self evident in other countries should be finally applied in Greece and the driver not to be obliged to change 3 or 4 transceivers for a single trip” Karagiannis said.

While a motorist had to change up to three transceivers for one route, now he will be possible to travel  from one end of the country to the other with one transceiver.

For example for the route Athens – Thessaloniki the motorist will travel with the same transceiver of his own provider and without having to procure a new transceiver.

If, for example, the driver arrives at Tempi toll and has already spent all the money he had charged on the transceiver, he will be able to add money through the website of the highway from which he supplied the transceiver paying by credit or debit card.

Another option is to charge the e-pass with physical presence at the Customer Service Points of the e-pass provider.

However, the driver will not be able to charge the e-pass at Customer Service Points of different providers..

The e-pass will reduce queues at the tolls, and consequently emissions, while at the same time the level of public service will be improved, especially during peak days and hours. (via amna, cnngree)

  1. It’s time Greece adopted the same arrangements as other countries and set up a direct debiting system through a bank account tather than having to pay up front.
