Government spokesman Stelios Petsas announced Monday noon that the regional units of Thessaloniki and Serres, in northern Greece, will be placed in full lockdown from 06:00 a.m. Tuesday, 3. November, 2020.
The measure will be in effect fro 14 days.
The night curfew will be longer and thus from 09:00 p.m. until 05:00 a.m.
Citizens who will need to leave their homes will have to send an sms to <13033>, the same 6 reasons as in Lockdown in spring are valid.
- Pharmacy or doctor visit
- Purchases of essential goods when delivery not possible
- going to the bank
- Provide aid/assitance for people in need
- Attend wedding/funeral,baptism or for shared custody cases
- Exercise and pet walking
However, Petsas added than during the night curfew, leaving home will be allowed for for work and health reasons. In this sense, going out for exercise or dog walking will not be allowed.
Retail stores will shut down.
Schools will remain open.
Domestic and international flights for non-essential reasons from/to “Macedonia” airport of Thessaloniki are banned.
Petsas described the coronavirus situation in Thessaloniki and neighboring prefectures as “extremely serious for the public health.”
He added that Greece is now divided in 3 zones: Zone A – Yellow “Increased Surveillance”, Zone B – Red “Alarm Level” and Zone C – Grey “Full Lockdown.”
He added that the regional unit of Magnisia is upgraded from Yellow to Red as of early November 3.
