Greece ‘s health authorities announced 1,251 new coronavirus cases and 89 more deaths in the past 24 hours. The number of intubated Covid-19 patients is 600.
Death toll has reached 3,092 and the total cases stand at 116,721.
Note that just 6,105 tests were carried out in last 24 hours due to Sunday. Positivity is record high 20.49%
Due to the high number of hospitalizations and intubated patients that put immense pressure to the country’s health system, the Greek government extended some of the lockdown restrictions until 7. January 2021.
An additional 10-day preventive quarantine is for those returning to Greece from 18. Dec 2020 until 7. Jan 2021.

According to the official daily bulletin on Monday, 5007(4.3%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 31293 (26.8%) are related to already known infection case.
The remaining infections are without known source.
52.7% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 600 from 600 a day earlier. Their average age is 65, among them are 167 women. 75.7% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
The number of intubated Covid-19 patients hardly surpasses 600 due to the capacity in the country’s hospitals.
668 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Another 89 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 3082. Of the deceased 1237 were women. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 96.2% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.
Rolling weekly average cases at 1639 from 1757 last week.
Total tests since begin of the outbreak are 2,485,266.
Tests in the last 24 hours: 6,105 with 20.49% οf them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.

It seems to be normal for days with fewer tests to have a high percentage of positives. I assume this is because alll the more obvious cases get tested as usual but there are fewer tracing follow-up tests among the potentially healthy members of the public on weekends. That would mean the surge in percentage of positives is just an artefact created by the method of counting rather than a real indicator.
