Greece extends lockdown for one more week until Jan 18

Head of Civil Protection and deputy Minister Nikos Hardalias announced on Friday the extension of the existing lockdown for one more week. The lockdown restrictions that were supposed to end on January 11 will be in force until 6:00 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2021, he said.

In contrast to initial government plans, operation of click away services for retail stores, bookstores and hairdressers remain suspended, other business activities are suspended as before.

Hardalias said that the measures are due to epidemiologists’ suggestions who, however, also favored the opening of primary schools on Monday, Jan 11.

According to Hardalias statementsThe new measures

Schools: Kindergartens, pre-schools, primary schools, special education schools and nurseries will open with differentiated arrival and departure time and Primary and kindergartens and special schools. Differentiated arrival and departure times where possible. Teachers will be able to take free Covid-tests through the special platform. All measures such as mask, antiseptics, cleanings and distances are maintained.

They will open also in areas where stricter restrictions are imposed. These are:  in Western Attica (Aspropyrgos, Elefsina),  Municipalities of Eordea, Kozani and Voio of Kozani, Palekastro of Sitia/Lassithi, Neda, Agiochori and Ipio of Aria/Rodopi  of Aliartos-Thespieon in Viotia,  of Makrakomi in Fthiotida, the Community of Srofi of the Municipality of Arrianon in Rodopi.

He urged for “special attention” in Viotia, West Attica, Rodopi, Kozani and Halkidiki, where there is an outbreak.

Arrivals from abroad: All those entering the country are subject to mandatory self-isolation for 7 days. Additionally, negative PCR test and rapid test. Especially for the passengers from the UK, they will be subjected to a rapid test in Greece, before they are allowed to enter the country, while they will also take a test upon their departure.

The Head of Civil Protection said that the measures will be examined on a weekly basis and corresponding announcements about how the country will move in terms of restrictions will be made every Friday.

PS Remember under lockdown there is a 9 pm – 5 am curfew.
