Greece’s health authorities announce don Wednesday evening, 671 new coronavirus cases and another 25 deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of Covid-19 patients intubated in hospitals across the country stands at 340.
Death toll has reached 5,354 and the total cases stand at 146,688.
Although there is an improved picture in relation to new cases, there are still areas with outbreaks causing concern to health authorities.
At the live briefing on Wednesday, Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said there were 7 areas causing concern. Therese are:
- Western Attica, Viotia, Lesvos, Kalymnos, Rodopi, Argolida and Halkidiki.
Note that with the exception of Halkidiki, all other areas have been placed in tougher lockdown restrictions with the latest being Argolida and Municipality of Sparta today, Lesvos yesterday and Viotia on Monday.
Kikilias stressed, however, that “everyone’s attention is focused on Attica, as the cases have been increasing.
he also noted that now the average age of new infected cases is 46 years old, while there is an increase in the age groups from 35 to 54 years.

Greek health authorities launched on Monday, the online platform for Covid-19 vaccinations where citizens can check in which priority group they belong and can arrange a vaccination appointment.
The Civil Protection extended the tougher lockdown restrictions in the municipalities Aspropyrgos, Elefsina, Eordaia, Vioio, Kozani, Strofi, Neada, Agiochori, Ipio in Arrianous, Rodopi and the siland of Kalymnos untul Monday, Jan 18, 2021.
InN also place the Regional Unit of Viotia in tougher lockdown restrictions Jan 12-18, 2021 due to increased epidemiological load.

According to the official daily bulletin on Wednesday,, 5673(3.9%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 44562 (30.4%) are related to already known infection case.
The remaining infections are without known source.
52.2% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 340 from 337 a day earlier. Their average age is 68, among them are 239(70.3%) men. 86.5% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
1,000 ! people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Another 25 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 5354. Of the deceased 3161 (59.0%) were men. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 95.5% of them had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.
Rolling weekly average cases at 657 from 640 last week.
