The committee of epidemiologists in Greece has reportedly voted 16 :8 in favor of a “hard lockdown” to be imposed in Greek capital Athens and the broader regional unit of Attica. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will address the nation at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The committee held an emergency meeting following recommendations for a “hard lockdown” by the Health Minister and another emergency meeting chaired by PM and several health officials.
At the meeting, 16 epidemiologists voted in favor of the lockdown, while there are 8 “blank” votes. Accoridng to exclusive media information, the “blank” votes were by epidemiologists who were called for a last minute decision even though the evaluation of the impact of the tougher lockdown in Attica since Saturday, February 6, was scheduled for the next couple of days.
Anyway the majority of them who voted in favor did not determine when the hard lockdown should be imposed, however, the put Thursday, Feb 11, on the table.
In the end it is always up to the government to decide.
Citing government sources, website healthreport writes that the lockdown may go into force even tomorrow, Wednesday, with schools to shut down and ban of click away in retail.
Several media speak of a hard lockdown that will last “2 weeks” at least, with the option of an additional week extension.

According to latest information by state broadcaster ERT, decisions about a hard lockdown in Thessaloniki, are to be taken tomorrow.
