Prosecutor probes sexual abuse of minors in Athens Children Hospital

A prosecutor in Athens has ordered preliminary investigation into cases of sexual abuse of minors at the Children Hospital “Agia Sophia”.

Accused is a paramedic who allegedly abused two children aged 6 and 8 years old. On both cases the man was allegedly caught in flagranti by doctors and other personnel who reported it to the hospital management.

A hospital employee even filed a complaint saying that the paramedic had “committed inappropriate sexual acts” against minors in the hospital.

In one case, the child was in a state of light narcoses and was waiting for a medical examination.

Several media claimed on Tuesday that the hospital management attempted to cover up after the first incident, it did not informed the police and it conducted an internal investigation only after a second incident.

Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias posted on Twitter on Wednesday that the case file is being trasnferred to the prosecutor.

The alleged suspect has been reportedly suspended since last Thursday.
