With an impressive military parade Greece celebrated the 200th anniversary of the start of the War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire in 1821. Troops of the Navy, the Air force and the Army marched and tanks rolled in front of state leaders and foreign dignitaries, military aircraft and helicopters flew over the Acropolis.
Highlight of the parade was a cavalry unit dressed with the costumes of the heroes of 1821.
For the first time, units carried the flags of the 1821 Revolution and children paraded wearing the costumes of the several regions that participated in the Independence War.
Among the fighter jets that flew over Athens were also French Rafale.
As the public was not allowed to participated due to the pandemic many went out on their balconies and terraces to enjoy at least the air show.
