Greece: 2093 new coronavirus cases, 93 deaths in past 24 hours

Greece’s health authorities announced on Wednesday evening, 2,093 new coronavirus cases and the death of 93 more patients who died of complications of Covid-19. The number of intubated patients has decreased further to 765.

Again the number of PCR and Rapid tests in the last 24 hours were several thousands less than the usual on week days, as Tuesday the last day of a prolonged Easter holiday.

At the Live Briefing on Wednesday, Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias described a “encouraging” the fact that the number of average rolling weekly infections has stabilized. From 2,417 last week to 1,658 in the last 7 days.

He stressed that the positivity rate was at 4.6% in the last 7 days.

Active cases are estimated to 19,766.

He warned, however, that the average age of infected has fallen to 43 and that new infections are being mostly detected in age groups 35-44 and 45-54

Since the pandemic began, Greece has confirmed 352,027 infections (daily change: +0.6%). In the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 44 infections are related to travel from abroad and  865 to other confirmed cases.

There are 93 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total of pandemic victims to 10,764. Of these, 95.5% had an underlying condition and/or were 70 years old.

A total of 765 Covid-patients are on ventilators in hospitals. Their median age is 67 years. 62.8% are men. 82.1% have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or more.

2,148 patients have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.

369 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours (daily change: -4.65%). The average admission of patients with Covid-19 to hospitals over the last 7 days was 411.

The median age of new infections is 44 years (range: 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of the deceased is 79 (range: 0.2 to 106 years).

Of the 2093  new cases, 6 were detected at the entrance gates of the country and 2 was among travelers already in the country.
