Ryanair – Protasevich: Foreign agents operated on Greek territory?

Serious questions about the possible presence of foreign secret agents in Greece have arose after Belarus forced the diversion of Ryanair flight from Athens to Vilnius and arrested opposition activist Roman Protasevich when the plane landed in Minsk on Sunday.

While still at Athens International Airport, Protasevich is said to have informed colleagues via the Telegram messaging application that he was approached by an unknown Russian-speaking man who took a picture of him and tried to photograph his documents.

If the information is confirmed, then there is reason to believe that foreign secret agents were operating in Greek territory including the Athens airport. Reuters and other media report that there are indications that part of the plan to kidnap the 26-year-old journalist from the Belarussian regime was implemented on Greek soil.

According the Greek Foreign Ministry, 171 passengers (from 12 countries) among them 11 Greeks were aboard the Ryanair flight from Athens.

After seven hours on the ground in Minsk, the Ryanair plane took off without six of the passengers: Protasevich, his 23-year-old girl friend and four Russian nationals. It is likely that these four men took part in the operation, reuters reported adding, however, that this piece of information has not yet been confirmed by official sources.

However, a passenger told Greek state broadcaster ERT on Monday that they did realize that some passengers were not onboard when the plane left for Vilnius hours later.

Reuters reports that there are indications that part of the plan to kidnap the 26-year-old journalist from the Belarussian regime was implemented on Greek soil.

If the testimony of the journalist himself is considered credible, then there is strong evidence of the presence and action of foreign agents at the Athens International Airport.

According to Greek media “It should be considered probable that these four men who started their journey from Athens took part in the secret operation to kidnap and arrest the journalist. This could be seen from the passenger lists of this particular flight, while the material from the airport security cameras is expected to play a key role in clarifying the case.”

Roman Protasevich was in Athens to cover the participation of Svetlana Tsihanuskaya, a former candidate for the presidency of Belarus and leader of the Belarusian opposition, at the “Delphi Economic Forum.”

He allegedly stayed a few more days in Greece for a short vacation.

Greece’s National Intelligence Service EYP has damn a lot to do and find out whether foreign agents operated on Greek soil in the country.

A Greek journalist noted that Belarus has not diplomatic representation (embassy) in Greece and asks that if four foreign agents operated in Athens, who provided them with logistics support.

  1. If they’ve got decent photos of the agents from CCTV I would suggest that they hand them over to Bellingcat. They are the organisation that dug up most of the information on the Russian spies who tried to poison the Skripals.
