Shooting at residential building in Alimos, south Athens, puzzles police

Residents of an apartment building in Alimos, suburb of south Athens, jumped out of their beds short after 6 o’ clock in the morning after they heard the noise of shooting. They immediately called the police.

No injuries have been reported.

Investigators found one bullet cashing. They checked all the apartments and balconies for more cashing as the residents said they had heard more than one shooting.

The bullet cashing is form a 9mm pistol, police said.

The one cashing was found at the balcony, while three holes caused by bullets were found in the balconies of two flats where pensioners live who reportedly are not linked to anything suspicious.
One police officer lives also in the building. Citing police sources, ANT1 TV reported that the shooting is not connected with him. His apartment is reportedly on different floor and direction.

Police have cordoned off the area and has reportedly expanded the investigation over the whole block. It does not rule out a “random incident,” media reported.

The shooting took place after two murders in a row, on Sunday and Monday. A Greek from Northern Epirus (Albania) was shot dead in a cafe in Sepolia, West Athens, and a retired Greek boxer was gunned down outside a gym in Vari, South-East Athens.
As both victims had criminal records, police attributes both murders to organized crime.
