Greece: 406 new coronavirus cases, 16 deaths, 277 intubations

Greece’s health authorities announced on Tuesday, 406 new coronavirus cases and 16 Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of intubated Covid-patients in hospitals Intensive Care Units stands at 277.

Authorities announced on Tuesday that due to improved epidemiological situation, the live briefings will be held twice per week  on Tuesday and Thursday and not three times as until now. One of the briefing will refer to the vaccination roll out.

The epidemiologists’ committee is to discuss the abolition of mandatory use of masks outdoors later this week.

Chairwoman of the National Vaccination Committee Maria Theodoridou said on Tuesday that “the administration of two doses of different vaccines is still being studied.”

Theodoridou was referring to the fact the citizens are concerned about the AstraZeneca and want to have the 2nd dose with another vaccine.

Note that on Monday evening, June 21, the platform for those who do not want a 2nd dose of AZ has opened. However, the change is possible under certain conditions, especially after vaccinated citizens suffered of some specific side effects including thrombosis. More detail here (in Greek)

Since the pandemic began, Greece has confirmed 418,548 infections (daily change: +0.0%). In the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 32 infections are related to travel from abroad and  672 to other confirmed cases.

Rolling average: 399 (665 previous week)

51.2% of the infected are men.

There are 16 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, the total of pandemic victims to 12,581.  Of these, 95.5% had an underlying condition and/or were 70 years old.

A total of 277 Covid-patients -from 283 a day earlier – are on ventilators in hospitals. Their median age is 66 years. 62.8% are men. 82.7% have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or more.

2,619 patients have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.

59 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours (daily change: +22.92%). The average admission of patients with Covid-19 to hospitals over the last 7 days was 63.

The median age of new infections is 43 years (range: 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of the deceased is 78 (range: 0.2 to 106 years).

Of the 406 new cases, 0 were detected at the entrance gates of the country and 3 among travelers already in the country.
