EODY warns of record number in Covid-19 infections on Tuesday

President of the National Health Care Organization (EODY) Panagiotis Arkoumaneas warned of a record number of new Covid-19 infections on Tuesday.

Speaking to state broadcaster ERT, Arkoumaneas said that EODY is expected to report around 3,000 new cases in the Health Ministry’s daily Coronavirus bulletin.
He recalled that daily infections were 1,797  on Tuesday last week and 605 on Tuesday the previous week, June 29.

Arkoumaneas added that despite the surge in coronavirus transmissions, the number of hospital admissions and the number of Covid-19 patients on ventilators remains low, due mainly to the fact that the vast majority of new cases concern teenagers and people in their 20s.

However, health officials warned that even though hospital admissions remain low they are increasing and will continue to do so if transmission continues at the present rate.
