Firefighters, civilians injured in the Athens forest fire (UPD)

Several firefighters and civilians were injured in the big forest fire in north Athens and were taken to hospitals in the Greek capital on Thursday evening. Two volunteer firefighter are intubated.

Injured are: one firefighter, four volunteer firefighters, and five civilians.

The firefighter was injured in the battle against the ongoing fire at Kryoneri. He fell into a 6-meter-deep well and was pulled out by his colleagues.

The civilians from Drosopigi and Kryoneri, are slightly injured with burns.

According to OpenTV, many firefighters suffer from heat stroke symptoms as they are on duty for several days now but with just 3 hours breaks.

The Health Ministry placed several hospitals, including the Burns and Plastic Surgery Clinic of KAT hospital, in Athens on rolling duty.

Two paramedic motorcycles, one mobile medical unit and 7 ambulances of the National Emergency Response Ambulance Service (EKAV) are on standby in north Attica.

Meanwhile, the number of injured rose to 29 as many people were rushed to hospitals and health centers in Peloponnese due to respiratory problems caused by the blaze in Ancient Olympia. There are also two firefighters with burn injuries.
