63. round of exploratory talks between Greece and Turkey start amid fresh tensions

The 63rd round of exploratory talks between Greece and Turkey take place in Ankara on Wednesday amid fresh tensions between the two neighboring countries and NATO partners.

The talks usually held at low diplomatic level take place after several provocative statements and actions on the part of Turkey on recent days.

The most serious incident was the harassment of research vessel “Nautical Geo” that has been conducting surveys for the laying of the EastMed natural gas pipeline in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea. Τhe Maltese-flagged ship is currently conducting research within the Exclusive Economic one (EEZ) of Cyprus

The Turkish Defense Ministry said on Monday that the Nautical Geo sailing under the Maltese flag, was pushed back from the Turkish continental shelf at the weekend after being warned that it was trespassing.

Next to the vessel harassment there have been several violations of the Greek airspace by Turkish fighter jets with some of them being armed, as the Greek Defense said.
At the same time, Turkey called again for the demilitarization of the Greek islands in the eastern Aegean Sea. In a letter to United Nations dated September 30, Turkey reportedly accused Greece of breaching the relevant provisions of the 1923 Lausanne and 1947 Paris Peace Treaties. and called “for the removal of Greek troops from the islands of Lesvos, Chios, Samos and Ikaria, Lemnos and Samothrace due to their proximity to Turkish mainland.”

Referring to the 63rd round of exploratory talks, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said on that it was unacceptable that Turkey, through constant provocations and inflammatory statements, was trying to undermine the climate of the talks before they even start.

“Greece does not threaten anyone but nor is it intimidated by illegal actions. It will protect its sovereignty, it will protect its sovereign rights according to the International Law and the Law of the Sea,” Dendias stressed.

  1. So long as some this uneducated, embezzling, and expansionist dictator who is using Muslim religion to fuel his nationalists by a controlled media, while jailing academics is in power, etc, forget it. There is no use entering any talks with such an aggressor.

These barbarians will push theatrics in their pirate attempts to open discussion on non-existent topics or try to rewrite laws or borders how they best see fit. It is breathtakingly challenged and unbelievable. These clowns do not want to follow international law or the law of the seas to expose the risk of armed conflict. They have ignored law and international condemnation for over 4 decades, let alone now.

Save your breath for maintaining a strong deterrence than remotely consider dialogue with these rude aggressive and bellicose criminals.

No more stealing and occupying territory. Germans tried that around 70 years ago and the allied international community, as France might attest, will ensure it will be by far shorter lived today if they dare try. Enough talk, 4 decades is too long.
