A 70-year-old shepherd from Evia who had been missing in the floods since Thursday was found dead early Friday afternoon. The man had gone to check for his animals as stormy weather front Ballos was striking the area with heavy rainfall.
The shepherd had called the Fire Service short after 10 o’ clock on Thursday night asking for help after he tried to cross a flooded stream with his car, state run news agency amna reported.
During a search and rescue operation parts of car were found in the early morning hours of Friday.
The vehicle was broken apart from the rushing waters, the parts shattered in the area, when two rivers unite.
The SAR operation was halted at 3:30 a.m. due to heavy rainfall.
His body was spotted from a helicopter in a gorge next to the river in Mesochoria, southern Evia, local media eviathema reported.
According to the local media, it was the man’s son who called authorities reporting his father as missing.
