Urban Rail Transport SA (STASY) employees will hold a work stoppage from 11:00 to 14:00 on Friday, November 19, in order to attend the funeral of their colleague, who was killed in a workplace accident on Tuesday.
The Athens metro and tram systems will come to a standstill in order for the employees to attend the funeral of 41-year-old Petros Giamalis funeral at 12:30 at the third cemetery in Athens.
Giamalis lost his life when the rail grinder he was on together with colleagues crashed into a train following breaks failure. Other other workers were injured.
Metro, tram and urban train workers hold a 24-hour strike on Thursday, while workers at bus and trolley buses hold two work stoppages with the second one being from 9 p.m. until the end of the night shift.
Public transport workers demand full investigation into the tragic accident, punishment of those responsible and better and safe working conditions.
